Montana is the 26th Growth State in America, according to U-Haul International, Inc. in its 2019 Growth States reporting on its industry-leading annual migration trends.
Montana surges eight spots from its No. 34 ranking last year on the annual list. It was also in the break-even range for netting U-Haul truck customers in 2016 and ’17, ranking 27th and 25th respectively, before registering as a slight net-loss state in 2018.
Growth States are calculated by the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a state versus leaving that state during a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 2 million one-way U-Haul truck-sharing transactions that occur annually.
Montana arrivals of one-way U-Haul trucks dipped 2%, but departures were down 3% compared to the state’s 2018 numbers. With fewer moving trucks leaving the state, arrivals accounted for 50.2% of all one-way U-Haul traffic in Montana to make it the No. 26 state for netting do-it-yourself movers.
