A security breach of consumer data held by Unifax, a credit reporting agency, could affect some 368,000 people in Montana. Nationwide the breach involves data pertaining to 143 million people.
The theft included the names of consumers, their Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some cases, driver’s license numbers. It is enough to enable crooks to use the information to hijack the identities of the victims of the stolen data.
Equifax is expected to send notifications to those impacted by the breach.
Consumers may contact the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) website to find out more and determine what further action they might take.
